Real Estate loans in India : Is this real Bubble? I’ve been waiting for some official confirmation of the bursting of the real estate bubble in India. Although bursting of the bubble (or even the existence of it) is still just hearsay, it is widely accepted that Indian real estate market is stuttering (to put it the best way I can). This article in the New York Times puts the depreciation in New Delhi and surrounding areas at 20%. I thought this is a good time to do a followup on my first post on Indian real estate. MUMBAI, April 22 - The retail unit of Reliance Industries Ltd RELI.BO, India's largest listed firm, RELI.BO said on Tuesday it had formed a joint venture with Office Depot ODP to provide office products and services in India. The firms have also acquired eOfficePlanet, an Indian office products and services dealer, to accelerate the rollout of the joint venture, they said in a statement. No financial details were disclosed in the statement."The joint venture with Reliance and the strategic acquisition of eOfficePlanet will put Office Depot in a leadership position in India," said Charles Brown, President of Office Depot's International Division. The firms said the Indian office products market was among the top 15 in the world. Outperforming its own guidance, IT major Satyam Computer Services Ltd has posted a 46 per cent increase in revenue to touch Rs 8,473.49 cr in 2007-08 and a net profit of Rs 1,687.89 crore, registering an year-on-year growth of 39.7 per cent. Tata Consultancy Services on Monday announced a consolidated net profit of Rs 5026.02 crore for the year ended March 31, 2008, an increase of 19.3 per cent as compared to the corresponding period a year-ago. The firm had a consolidated net profit of Rs 4212.63 crore in the year-ago period, it said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange. The total income of the group stood at Rs 23349.45 crore for the year ended March 31, 2008, compared to Rs 18914.26 crore for the corresponding period a last year. TCS posted a standalone net profit of Rs 4508.76 crore for the year ended March 31, 2008, a rise of 20 per cent as compared to the year-ago period. Anil Ambani group's Reliance Power is looking to invest about one billion dollars (Rs 4,000 crore) towards purchase of large-size vessels for shipping coal from abroad to its Krishnapatnam and other projects. Reliance Power, which has bagged the country's two ultra mega power projects of 4,000 MW each at Sasan in Madhya Pradesh and Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, has . has already received initial quotations from some major shipping yards in China, Korea and Japan towards its order for Capesize vessels worth about one billion dollars. Capesize vessels are among the world's biggest shipping vessels with capacity of up to 200,000 tonnes and these ships are mostly used in handling deep water terminals for raw materials such as iron ore and coal. Inflation stands at 7.41% versus 7% for the week ended March 29 . The market had estimated it at 7%. The iron and steel inflation has gone up 5.6%. The inflation is highest since November 8, 2004. Tata Motors Ltd plans to list depositary receipts on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, and may raise more than 100 billion yen ($983 million) in Japan for acquisitions, said on Wednesday. Tata, India's top vehicle maker, last week announced a deal to buy luxury brands Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford Motor Co for about $2.3 billion. Later this year it plans to start selling the Nano, the world's cheapest car at about $2,500. A spokesman for Tata Motors, India's top vehicle maker, said he could not comment on the Nikkei report immediately. Tata Motors last month signed a deal for a $3 billion one-year bridge loan, which it has indicated it would use for Jaguar and Land Rover deal. It also said it would raise additional long-term funds of up to 40 billion rupees ($1 billion).
